Slicing Techniques
The sheets of veneer are produced by cutting the timber log horizontally. There are different types of cuts that create different veneer structures:
Plain slicing
creates CROWN veneer
Quarter slicing
creates RIFT veneer
Half-round slicing
creates SEMI-CROWN and QUATERS veneer
Full-round rotary slicing
the wood log is rotated on its axis creating a structure that is not well-defined. The veneer produced by this process is called rotary cut or peeled.
