Description

Use: It used for interior furnishings. It is also used for exterior coverings, as long as it is protected by suitable saturating substances since it is very sensitive to climatic factors. Tulip tree wood can be stained to imitate more valuable woods such as walnut, while wood with a greenish hue is sought after by carvers who use its various colour tones in their compositions. The bark is also used for medical purposes.

Characteristics: the sapwood is whitish, often with light stripes. The heartwood varies from light yellow to brownish yellow with dark-grey or grey-greenish zones. The growth rings are difficult to recognise to the naked eye. The wood is very light and soft and very prone to attack by plant and animal parasites.

Drying: drying is easy and does not require an excessive amount of time.

Surface: compact texture, with smooth straight grain. Wood is easy to stain.

Gluing: very strong with any type of joint.
