Description
Use: a wood widely used for both outdoor and indoor construction. Although it can be difficult to slice at times, due to the possible presence of resin and the tight and compressed structure of the log, this wood is also used in the furniture industry and for door and window frames. Also used for laminated cores.
Characteristics: a very soft and light wood, where it is difficult to distinguish between the sapwood and heartwood, since the latter does not have a pronounced colouration. It is predominantly light yellow-brown in colour, sometimes whitish, with fairly pronounced veins.
Drying: drying can be done quickly and easily. When drying times are too long there is a risk of warping.
Surface: fir can be easily treated, after cleaning any resins that can cause counter-reactions. Smooth and polished surfaces have a beautiful sheen.
Gluing: all types of joints are easily made and are strong.
