Use: it is widely used in civilian construction for the exterior wall-coverings of houses,  timbering and bridges. Also used in the chemical industry for the extraction of turpentine.

Characteristics: the sapwood is yellowish-white and tends to be narrow, the heartwood is yellow-reddish or has a bright reddish-brown shade. In addition to Pitch Pine there are many other varieties of North American Pine, depending on the various areas of origin: Jack Pine (Pinus Banksiana, from Canada), Jeffrey Pine (Oregon and Northern Mexico) and Virginia Pine (Eastern United States).

Drying: drying is fast and without difficulty because the wood does not tend to warp or deform.

Surface: grain is very smooth and straight. Due to the presence of resin, the same advice given for European Pine also applies to the use of varnishes or stains.

Gluing: all types of joints are effective.
