Description

Use: given its particularly decorative characteristics and value, it is used for luxury furniture, interior furnishings and wall-coverings. In cabinet-making for carvings and decorative items and for particular musical instruments.

Characteristics: the sapwood is wide with shades ranging from whitish to reddish-brown. The heartwood is very dark, tending to black, crossed by many very marked regular and irregular light streaks, which give the wood a unique, extremely beautiful and decorative appearance. 

Drying: drying must be done slowly to avoid tearing.

Surface: the wood is very heavy but has a fine surface structure. Particularly suitable for polishing.

Gluing: glue joints do not create any particular difficulties, unlike nail joints.
