Description

Use: the wood is widely used in carpentry and the furniture industry. Sometimes also it used in cabinet-making to replace more precious woods.

Characteristics: yellowish-white wood that tends to darken with the passage of time. To preserve its characteristics, Koto logs must be cut fresh. When slicing, care must be taken to place the material in a well-ventilated, dry place.

Drying: after the log is cut, it must be dried immediately to avoid the formation of blue spots (Koto is particularly sensitive to staining fungi). It dries easily but it must be done slowly to avoid surface cracks.

Surface: medium texture with straight grain. It planes and cleans well, offering a quite beautiful and decorative surface. Koto is ideal for colouring and printing.

Gluing: glues easily and holds well. Screw and nail joints are also easy.
