Description
Use: used for veneer and planks, the wood is particularly durable and resistant to water and, for this reason, much appreciated for construction on piles and submerged land. For the same reason, it was been widely used for piles and supports in the city of Venice.
Characteristics: the wood is not very decorative and often aesthetically defective (with countless hair-shaped spots). The colour varies from red-orange to reddish-white, but sometimes there are also darker shades.
Drying: drying is fast and easy, as long as done immediately after cutting the trunk to prevent stains or colour changes.
Surface: straight grain and fine, uniform texture. Waxes, matting products and oily protective substances are widely used and easy to apply.
Gluing: all types of joints are good and effective.
