Description

Use: much used in cabinet-making and boat building. Sometimes, for its appearance, it is used as a substitute for Walnut (for which it is also called African Walnut). One particular use is for rifle butts.

Characteristics: Dibetou is resistant to stress and shock, and rather resistant to pressure, traction and weathering. Sapwood and heartwood are not clearly differentiated. The sapwood is greyish-white and the heartwood is brownish-grey. Due to discordant twisting, it has light and dark stripes. The heartwood is resistant to Lyctus (woodworm).

Drying: fast and easy.

Surface: medium and fine texture with mostly intertwined grain. 

Gluing: the wood is worked well and easily, but when it comes into contact with pieces of metal, blackish spots may appear.
