Description
Use: a wood widely used in furniture and panels. It can also be used to make chairs, tables and wall-coverings.
Characteristics: the sapwood is narrow, almost white, while the heartwood has white, ivory or very light brown tones. A moderately hard, durable and very elastic wood. Downy birch wood is particularly sensitive to atmospheric changes and is therefore rare to find logs completely free of defects.
Drying: it must be dried slowly to prevent deformation and yellowing. It has defects common to light woods.
Surface: it has a fine texture with straight grain. It can be stained and varnished very easily.
Gluing: normal joints are easily made and provide excellent resistance to mechanical stress.
