Description
Use: wood used for veneers and less frequently rotary-cut for exteriors. The wood is used for furniture, luxury furnishings, car dashboards and even in the marine industry.
Characteristics: the heartwood is light brown or cream with dark blackish brown streaks vaguely resembling zebra stripes. A medium hard, not too heavy, wood with good resistance to compression and bending.
Drying: drying must be slow since this wood tends to break and warp.
Surface: quite coarse texture with open holes. Grain usually wavy or intertwined. Rather easy to varnish and polish, except in those cases where there is a lot of resin.
Gluing: glue joints are not too difficult. For joints with screws or nails, pre-drilling is recommended.
