Description
Use: widely used in cabinet-making. Only in Southern Europe, it was also widely used for mass-produced furniture. Beautiful veneers can be made from this wood, especially from the first part of the trunk and roots. The veneers are requested by high-end decorators.
Characteristics: the sapwood is whitish and differentiated from the heartwood, which is brown, streaked with darker veins. In the lower part of the trunk, they form various figures that make it especially prized and highly sought after by furniture makers for reproductions of period furniture.
Drying: drying is not a problem, provided that it is performed slowly and at not too high temperatures.
Surface: From average to very hard, slightly fibrous, good finishing. An ideal wood for polishing to highlight its decorative designs.
Gluing: easy to join with both glue and screws. In the latter case, pre-drilling is recommended.
