Botanical name: Weinmannia Trichosperma

Country of origin: South America.

Description

Use: widely used for flooring, especially for outdoor use after appropriate treatments. Also used for high-value furniture and cabinet-making.

Characteristics: whitish sapwood and dark red heartwood, sometimes mottled or variegated. Another variety of Tineo, Weinmannia Descendens, typical of Central America, has, instead, a brownish-pinkish or reddish purple heartwood.

Drying: easy to dry and does not require an excessive amount of time, even if care must be taken to avoid cracking and warping.

Surface: medium fine texture and mostly straight grain.

Gluing: very strong with any type of joint.
