Description

Use: in addition to veneer, this type of wood is often rotary cut for furniture and doors and as construction wood. Unlike American White Oak, it is not used for barrels staves, since the pores are not clogged.

Characteristics: the colour ranges from light to dark red. Compared to American White Oak, it is more likely to form blue spots during slicing due to its open pores and the higher level of tannin. Red Oak trees generally have a larger trunk that White Oak and, for this reason, the sheets of veneer are wider and having a cleaner structure.

Drying: like other types of oak, drying times are very long and drying should be done using moderate heat and slowly to prevent the wood from splitting and warping.  

Surface: all treatments can be performed without difficulty. Often used for dark rustic tints.

Gluing: it glues well but nail joints require pre-drilling.
