Botanical name: Baillonella Toxisperma

Country of origin: Africa

Veneer thickness: from 0.6 to 2 mm

Specific gravity: 650-750 kg/m3 (with moisture content of 15%)

Description

Use: used in carpentry and for door and window frames. Sometimes it replaces mahogany in cabinet-making.

Characteristics: the sapwood is 5-6 cm thick with a light pink colour. The heartwood dark pink or red-brown, sometimes with darker shades.

Drying: drying must be slow to prevent cracking and twisting.

Surface: fine texture with straight grain and compact structure. Moabi generally has a silky-matt sheen.

Gluing: both types of joints are easy to make.
