Description

Use: used for high-quality furnishings. Historically, much appreciated in the United States, Japan and Australia.

Characteristics: the many small knots of varying sizes, arranged side by side, are the distinguishing feature of this wood. The numerous sinuous dark brown lines arise from a structural defect of the trunk, due to the different composition of the wood fibres. Therefore, unlike burls, these types of bubble and knots are caused by the formation of buds that are incorporated prematurely by the fibres of the trunk.

Drying: to be dried very carefully, given the ease with which this wood warps.

Surface: fine texture with wavy grain. Wood easy to stain and varnish. To bring out the beauty of this wood and make it shine, it is recommended to polish it.

Gluing: both types of joints are easy to make, effective and durable.
