Description

Use: used for wood construction in shipbuilding and for the furniture, especially in the countries of origin. Since the wood is very resistant to weathering and wood-boring parasites, it is often used for outdoor flooring, terraces and window and door frames. The wood is abundant and therefore relatively inexpensive. For this reason, it is used in cabinet-making to replace teak for less visible solid parts.

Characteristics: the sapwood is very different from the heartwood, which is yellow-brown and darkens to brownish-gold with the passage of time.

Drying: it must be dried slowly.

Surface: medium texture, often with crossed grain. Due to its large pores, it does not absorb stains and varnishes uniformly.

Gluing: its porous structure may cause slight difficulties in absorbing glue.
