Description

Use: the chestnut tree is used for a wide range of products: furniture, stair coverings, wood flooring, boat parts and piles, planks. It is also used for barrel slats and for the extraction of tannin.

Characteristics: sapwood narrow with yellowish-white colour. The heartwood is, instead, light brown, although with time it tends to darken greatly. The heartwood is sometimes subject to insect infestation.

Drying: the drying process must be performed very carefully because chestnut tends to crack and warp.

Surface: The texture of the wood is similar to oak. Fibrous to slightly fibrous on average. It can be easily stained and treated.

Gluing: joints with glue, screws, nails hold perfectly. When aged, the wood is very easy to work.
